This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. If anyone reading this is knowledgeable about recording at all, I would love to know your thoughts on how the vocals might have been recorded...what kind of room? what kind of microphone? It is perfection.

  1. It sounds like it was recorded in a small room with a single microphone, then run through an analog spring echo later in the studio. I don't think it was recorded in a studio, because, while the sound is rather dry at first, you can still hear slight wall reflections... which you wouldn't get in a recording studio. I'm guessing this was a pretty good field recording made on an analog tape machine...you can hear the tape hiss. I'm also going to guess that it was recorded with a dynamic mic as opposed to a condensor mic, because the high frequencies seen a bit subdued. Most condensor mics give their recordings a "brighter" sound.

    Just my opinion.

  2. Bless you! Yes, the wall reflections are incredible to me! They have me trying to analyze the shape and size of the room, the material that the walls are made with, the placement of the microphone in the room...my god it is so lovely. Thank you ever so much for your suggestions! I am intrigued by the analog spring echo that you mention; I will have to do some research.
